Exegeza psalmilor

Ultimele secole de studii critice asupra Bibliei în general, și asupra Psalmilor în particular, și-a lăsat amprenta și asupra modului în care citim poezia canonică. Cele opt etape ale exegezei pe care o promovez ar trebui să conțină în cazul Psalmilor următoarele detalii prezentate succint:

Delimitarea

Din moment ce psalmii sunt unități literare bine definite, aici este locul unde căutăm să înțelegem ce tip de psalm avem înainte (critica formei).

Incorporarea

Clarificăm chestiunile de ordin textual (critica textuală) și clarificăm elementele de context socio-cultural și istoric. Unii psalmi au referiri la contextul istoric chiar din subtitlu care pot lumina înțelegerea mesajului. Poeme liturgice de același tip se găsesc în literatura mesopotamiană, ugaritică, egipteană.

Segmentarea

Fiecare tip de psalm are anumite secțiuni standard (pot exista excepții ale tiparelor!). Acestea trebuie evidențiate. Paralelismul ideilor trebuie urmărit și poemul aranjat pe linii poetice, versuri și strofe. Reperarea repetițiilor ne poate fi de folos aici.

Evaluarea

Se discută elementele de ordin temporal. Se caută elementele de coeziune a discursului, se identifică tema fiecărei strofe, se analizează termenii cheie.

Conturarea

Se analizează elementele de sens figurat: figuri de construcție, figuri de elocuție, figuri de stil, figuri de gândire și tropi.

Tabelarea

Se redă textul sub formă poetică, evidențiind pe text observațiile făcute anterior.

Interpretarea

Psalmii au fost inserați într-un anumit loc în Psaltire. Se verifică legăturile Psalmului cu poemele adiacente. Totodată se caută legăturile Psalmului cu alte  poeme din VT și NT. Unii Psalmi sunt citați integral în alte părți din Scriptură, alții doar parțial.

Analogia

Se extrage mesajul poemului. Se caută elementele corespondente în cultura creștină în câteva puncte majore  de contact: Dumnezeu, mesianismul, moralitatea.

New book on Psalms

Moody Publishers (Chicago, USA) announces the publication of a new volume on the canonical Psaltire – The Psalms: Language for All Seasons of the Soul (288 p. + bibl., indices) under the editorial work of Andrew Schmutzer and David M. Howard, Jr.

As announced from its title, and confirmed in the editors’ forword, this collection of essays presented at the Evangelical Theological Society, is not a cold scholarly enterprise, but one that looks into the understanding of Psalms from a personal perspective and its relationship to human experience, that of the author / editor and the reader without lowering the standard of scholarly approach.
Both the established scholar and junior scholar are united in the message they convey, ‘Psalms are good reading for the soul. More so, when they are read with proper care for the text.’ Although it touches on the main critical issues specific to the study of the Psaltire, known in the field under various labels, i.e., form criticism, canonical criticism, literary criticism, these essays are written with a high view on Psalms as the Word of God, and a deep knowledge of the Hebrew text, motivated by a Christ-centered piety. This work is paradigmatic for an evangelical approach to the Bible, wherein the scholarship and spirituality intertwine with one another.
The volume could be a useful tool for every student of the Bible, pastors and preachers included, not for having authorised voices speculating over the meaning of some phrases, but for displaying a method of analysis at work on particular psalms (Psalms 1, 2, 16, 23, 46, 54, 84, 88, 91, 117, 150) or on various themes (e.g., wisdom, kingship, praise, lament) and a genuine interest for the application of the message unearthed.

Actualizarea studiilor la Psaltire

Oxford University Press ne oferă rezultatele cercetării prezentate în prelegerile susținute între 22 și 24 septembrie 2010 la Worcester College în Oxford sub coordonarea profesorilor Susan Gillingham și John Barton. Titlul volumului de eseuri – Jewish and Christian Approaches to the Psalms: Conflict and Convergence – a păstrat titlul conferinței din 2010 doar cu o inversiune: subtitlul a devenit titlu. După cum fusese anunțat în avans, intenția era de a aduce împreună erudiți evrei și creștini pentru a dezbate perspectivele comune celor două lumi de dragul dialogului. Prof. Gillingham este adeptata pluralismului de voci în ce privește interpretarea Scripturii, fapt dovedit de publicația sa din 1999, One Bible, Many Voices – Different Approaches to Biblical Studies (Eerdmans). Preocuparea sa pentru cartea Psalmilor este binecunoscută, fiind mai recent incorporată în Psalms Through the Centuries (Blackwells, 2008). Contributorii au provenit de pe ambele țărmuri ale Oceanului și au interacționat atât în lucrările celor trei zile de dezbateri  cât și în lucrările publicate.

Sunt onorat să îi fi întâlnit în persoană pe mai mulți profesori din lista anterioară și chiar să lucrez cu unii dintre ei pentru o vreme. Prețul cărții este destul de ridicat pentru un român (peste 70 lire sterline), dar poate că vom avea ocazia să o răsfoim prin vreo bibliotecă cândva nu peste foarte mult timp.
